much pleasure in accepting that offer, although I venture to think that in consequence of my not having received the increase of 35 per cent on my salary in 1891 at the time the salaries of the other officers of the Government were increased, and in consideration of my long service I am entitled to additional pay over and above that suggested in the aforesaid despatch.

W. Boulton, Assistant Engineer who has been employed on these works since their commencement in April 1889, C.S.0. 1622/89, desires to accept that offer, as he thinks that he is fairly entitled to additional pay over – and above that suggested in the said despatch, as he did not receive any increase of salary in 1891, at the time that the salaries of the other officers of Government were increased from about 20 to 35 per cent.

We Mudie, Executive Engineer, was transferred from the Public Works department to these works in November 1892, C.S.O. No. 1331/92 under a three years engagement and I presume that he is debarred from participating in that offer, although it may appear somewhat hard on account of great shrinkage in the exchange value of the dollar.

I have etc.,

(Sgd.) E. Boodler, Special Engineer.

Colonial Secretary.
